Just as the sun begins to peek over the horizon at Spot Pond, the resident critters are coming to life. Birds begin tweeting their morning songs. Deer meander fluidly from one cluster of trees to the next. Frogs start a chorus of their throaty croaks. The natural sanctuary awaits at Middlesex Fells Reservation, which is situated around the expansive pond.
With the body of water at the heart of the park, it should come as no surprise that boating is one of the main activities guests like to partake in. Reserve a canoe or kayak for the day and set out on the water. Taking your fishing rod with you! If you prefer to stay land-bound, check out the trails. There are more than 100 miles of them, and the paths range from easy, flat terrain to more difficult slopes studded with rocks and roots. Many of the trails can accommodate mountain bikes, as well. The Reservoir Trail is a particularly challenging jaunt for cyclists. Want to enjoy a stunning view? Head up to the observation tower where a panorama of the surrounding wilderness awaits. Or you can simply bring a blanket, spread it out on the grass, and soak up some sunshine at the Middlesex Fells Reservation.
